Parker People

The people we employ are our most important asset

A wealth of experience

From a client’s initial concept, we take ownership of the challenges to turn them into business solutions. Our engineering teams offer a single point of contact to complete what we see as an “in-house” project, taking it through to commissioning.

The first step is to assemble the correct team to see the project through to the end. In addition to our people, this may include personnel from the client, any of their professional advisers and/or main contractor and must be achieved by liaison between all parties to attain the mutually desired goal. This management team must be dedicated to the project and have the skills and experience to realise the full potential of the latest technologies and techniques.

Planning ahead is vital and we recognise that this requires the team to focus on a number of areas including:

  • Health and Safety considerations.
  • Project planning and timing of key stage activities.
  • Procurement arrangements for manpower allocation, plant and equipment and specialist services.
  • Ensuring appropriate site management and supervision, co-ordination with others on site, quality and financial control.
  • Compliance with statutory and other requirements.
  • Health and Safety considerations.
  • Completion and commissioning documentation.
  • Energy saving and management.

Our objective is to provide a comprehensive installation service, on time and within budget, to the completion satisfaction of our clients.

Sean Smyth

CEO WT Parker Group / Parker Technical Services

Like many others at Parker Technical Services, Sean started his life with the company as an electrical apprentice, before working his way up through the business. Today, he puts that hands-on knowledge and experience to daily use as our Group CEO.

Stuart Driscoll

Operations Director / Deputy MD Parker Technical Services

An Operations Director with great experience in the M&E sector, Stuart has been with Parker Technical Services since 2014. His role involves supporting all aspects of our business; recent projects have included the Parker Technical Services headquarters redevelopment in Burton upon Trent, and supporting the development of the new Cambridge office, alongside Regional Director Andrew Benton.

Sean’s career at Parker Technical Services began in 1973, when he embarked on a fast-track apprenticeship scheme, passing with distinction. He went on to gain experience of the construction industry as a Site Engineer, responsible for running multimillion-pound contracts across a variety of sectors. He was subsequently promoted to Senior Contract Manager in 1989, and to Managing Director in 1997. He then joined the Group board in 2003, and was appointed Group CEO in 2007. During his tenure, Sean has steered Parker Technical Services successfully through the recession, and indeed into a time of sustained growth – a period that has included the building of Parker House, our company headquarters, and a new workshop and office complex at Musk Engineering. Today he is responsible for setting our vision and strategy for the future. Central to this vision is seeing Parker Technical Services growing as a sustainable, profitable Group with a £100 million turnover, and with a multi-skilled workforce that can operate in the UK’s key growth markets.

Externally, Sean has been heavily involved in the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA), serving as a Branch Chairman and Council Delegate. He was appointed to the ECA board in 2012 as a Non-Executive Director. He has also been involved with the Joint Industry Board’s (JIB) Modernisation Forum, and more recently with the Joint Major Contractors (JMC) Forum, playing a part in the future of the industry at the highest level.

Stuart has held a number of senior roles within the industry, in various parts of the country and across a diverse range of sectors. Prior to joining Parker Technical Services, he spent 26 years with a major M&E contractor in north-west England. Early in his appointment here, together with our Managing Director and the estimating team, he helped to secure a number of key projects for the business, including a prestigious new manufacturing facility at Barrow-in-Furness. He is currently involved in that project on a full-time basis, supporting the project team with their work there. Since joining Parker Technical Services, Stuart has been integrating himself with most of the Group’s business streams. He is a strong advocate of our in-house expertise and diversity, working to foment opportunities for other staff teams across the business. While maintaining a base in the north-west, Stuart now lives in Repton, close to the head office in Burton upon Trent.

Rafe originally trained as a contracts engineer for H&V Building Services. He then moved into distribution with the Wolseley Centre and WF Electrical, before joining Parker Technical Services in 2013. His early work with us centred around the development of renewable energy alongside small works, from heat pumps to solar thermal solutions. Since the government’s change of policy in this area, his focus now centres on lighting and photovoltaic. At Parker Technical Services, Rafe works closely with our Contracts Manager, David Plested, and his team. Together, they are helping to develop our sales lighting projects and general installation work, providing first class electrical services to local businesses, and direct to the NHS via smaller projects. In his role at Seymour & Castle, Rafe is also helping to develop the business by growing our customer base and forging new markets.
